DataShapesAI Awarded Navy SBIR Phase I Contract to Develop MORPHEUS Dynamic DSP Scheduler

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — March 13, 2026 – DataShapesAI has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract by the Department of the Navy to develop the Modular, Optimized Real-time Processing Harness for Edge-Unit Schedulers (MORPHEUS). This project addresses the Navy’s requirement for adaptive scheduling of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) tasks within Software Defined Radios (SDRs).

The MORPHEUS innovation introduces a CPU-based dynamic scheduling module designed to evaluate signal priorities and distribute processing tasks across available compute resources within bounded time windows, referred to as “epochs.” By extending the company’s GlobalEdge™ platform, DataShapesAI aims to optimize the layout of DSP techniques on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) processors.

Key Phase I technical objectives include:

  • Architecture and Interface Definition: Establishing an Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) and formalizing interfaces for structured metadata protocols such as Vita 49.2, Protobuf, and SigMF.
  • Scheduling Logic Development: Implementing a priority-driven task engine with adaptive reassignment to maximize compute coverage in dense signal environments.
  • Epoch Simulation: Verifying the system’s ability to sustain greater than 90% real-time processing efficiency within strict latency bounds.
  • Synthetic Lab Demonstration: Constructing a testbed to validate autonomous cue triage, deferral, and rejection logic under oversubscribed signal loads.

According to the project’s technical volume, the Phase I effort is intended to demonstrate the feasibility of a modular scheduling layer that reacts in near real-time to changing signal environments and mission demands. The roadmap includes future scaling to heterogeneous processor classes, including GPU and FPGA resources.
