Inspired by Steve

Steve Jobs was brilliant.

A visionary, a brilliant communicator and marketer, and one of the great business creators of our time. Not only did he create Apple, he created Pixar. And then he re-created Apple after others had failed to manage it. We love Steve’s 1997 introduction of Apple’s re-branding after he took the company back over. The re-branding campaign focused on passionate people who think differently.

We founded DataShapes and created DataShapes technologies and solutions driven by the core belief that people who dare to think differently can change the world for the better.

We are not Steve Jobs, but—call it a personality flaw or perhaps just an aspiration informed by Steve’s legacy—we cannot help but think about the world differently. For us, orthodoxy just doesn’t get the job done.

So, how do we think differently at DataShapes? Well, for starters, we believe:

  • AI is for humans.

  • AI should be simple, not difficult.

  • AI should be accessible to workers, not cloistered behind the monastic walls of I.T.

  • AI models should be adaptable—you shouldn’t have to start over from scratch just to make a small change.

  • AI results should be immediately explainable and auditable. All of them.

At DataShapes, we also believe that IoT edge devices don’t produce data—at least not in the sense that most people think about data. Instead these devices produce a “prequel” to data which requires some level of transformation before it can be used by most computer applications. And, we believe that it’s best if this transformation takes place on the devices themselves—not after being transported to the cloud.

Steve Jobs was right about many things—some of which are only now being realized. Steve believed that“People with passion can change the world for the better.” He lived his life by that creed and at DataShapes we like the idea of sharing it with him.
